Home / How it works

One structured process for the money side of a build.

Agree the stages, arrange funding, build, review, release payment and keep the record. Every step is visible to both of you.

  1. Agree

Before work begins, you agree the scope, project value, stages, stage values, target dates and the conditions each stage must meet before it is paid.

HomeownerSet out the project or start from a suggested stage plan, then invite your builder.
BuilderReview the stages, suggest changes and accept the plan.
  2. Fund

Project funding is arranged through the selected regulated payment partner in line with the agreed payment structure. The relevant status is shown to both of you.

HomeownerComplete the required funding step when asked. You will see the resulting status in the project.
BuilderSee the relevant funding status before you commit labour and materials.
  3. Build

Work goes ahead against the agreed stage. Both of you can see which stage is in progress and what comes next.

HomeownerNothing to manage day to day. Follow progress when you want to.
BuilderGet on with the work, knowing what the stage requires.
  4. Review

When a stage is complete, the builder submits evidence against each agreed condition. The homeowner reviews it condition by condition.

HomeownerCheck each condition, then approve or ask for changes on a specific point.
BuilderUpload photos, certificates and notes from your phone, and submit.
  5. Release

Approving a stage authorises its payment. The payment partner then processes it, and its status is shown separately from the work.

HomeownerConfirm approval on a clear summary of the stage and its value.
BuilderSee the stage approved straight away, and follow the payment until it arrives.
  6. Record

Every agreement, submission, change, approval and payment is kept in one project record that you can both refer back to and download.

HomeownerKeep a full history for your records, insurance or a future sale.
BuilderKeep a documented history of the job and how it was paid.

Two statuses, never merged.

Every stage has a work status and a payment status. A stage can be approved while its payment is still processing, and you will always see both.
